Deadhorse is an unincorporated community in North Slope Borough, Alaska. The core of the town consists mainly of facilities for the workers and companies that operate at the nearby Prudhoe Bay oil fields. The permanent population is minimal and temporary residents can range as high as 3,000.

The community of Deadhorse began and still exists today as a hub for oil field services support. The area experiences constant expansion and improvement, and in this instance required a general duty shop built by ASRC, located close to the Deadhorse airport and across from the recently built Aurora hotel. Specifically, this new facility will provide light and heavy duty shops, offices and wash bays.

As with the hundreds of other buildings located in northern Alaska, the permafrost below the foundation of the ASRC NS facility is of the utmost importance. As early as the construction phase, temperature monitoring is important, if not essential, for confirmation and awareness of the integrity of the ground.
beadedstream Solution
A total of 8 DTCs (Digital Temperature Cables) were fabricated for the project. Encased in PEX, these cables were delivered and installed across the site footprint. Six cables were routed to monitor vertical locations, and the remaining two horizontal DTCs pathed over the other six to provide additional vertical monitoring points. beadedstream then paid a visit to the facility site in June of 2015, terminating the eight gathered DTCs and connecting them to mounted D405 satellite data loggers. The installation was configured for automatic satellite telemetry. A follow-on finalization is planned to panelize the monitoring setup inside the finished building.
